Contemporary Staffing Solutions is seeking a Director of Cost Accounting to join our client for a hybrid opportunity in Bridgeton, NJ 08302! The Director of Cost Accounting will lead the month-end close for all the client’s manufacturing locations, provide insightful cost analysis, and support strategic decision-making initiatives. This Direct-Hire opportunity offers an annual salary range of $146,000-$175,000/year based on experience!

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of cost accounting for the company.
  • Partner with manufacturing operations to develop and maintain accurate standard costs, including Burden, Labor, and Overhead.
  • Oversee the month-end close process for all manufacturing locations, ensuring timely completion of cost accounting activities.
  • Review standard journal entries (labor and overhead allocations) and manufacturing variances, providing in-depth analysis.
  • Manage work order accounting close and review variances for discussion with plants and costing teams.
  • Conduct variance analysis by comparing actuals to budget/standard and historical data to identify operational inefficiencies.
  • Optimize KPIs and operational performance reporting to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide detailed explanations regarding manufacturing variances and conversion costs for monthly and quarterly reporting to the executive team.
  • Lead special projects to optimize, rationalize, and standardize cost accounting processes.
  • Support cycle counts, annual physical inventory counts, and monitor inventory existence at third-party facilities and external manufacturing sites.
  • Assist with the annual budget process and monthly forecasting process.
  • Manage 1-2 direct reports, providing mentorship and periodic feedback on performance.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of cost and inventory accounting experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (food and beverage preferred).
  • Experience establishing and optimizing reporting processes.
  • Experience in team management.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to think critically and independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages and business intelligence tools.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with others in the organization and meet deadlines.
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities.
