Contemporary Staffing Solutions (CSS) is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter to join our client Ewing, NJ for a hybrid opportunity! The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for performing a comprehensive manual review of assumption packages, including supporting documentation, to determine if applicants qualify to assume liability for existing loans. This Contract-to-Hire opportunity offers $27-$30/Hour!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide and support Processors in file reviews, training, and escalations.
  • Manually underwrite various loan types following investor guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and investor regulations.
  • Collaborate with partners, vendors, and investors to resolve underwriting inquiries.
  • Submit files for investor approval as necessary.
  • Provide analysis and justification for conditions to guide Processors.
  • Review assumption packages and supporting documents to make determinations.
  • Escalate processing concerns to management as needed.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions are made within 30 days of receiving applications.
  • Monitor and implement changes in investor guidelines.
  • Perform OFAC checks and update FHA Connection post-closing.
  • Address audit inquiries and support departmental functions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Manage customer and third-party interactions for lien adjustments and easements.
  • Review requests with a thorough understanding of investor guidelines and legal documents.
  • Ensure partial release documents meet investor and client standards.
  • Collaborate with professionals to manage unique release requests.
  • Handle escalated requests and complete tasks within expected timeframes.
  • Facilitate execution of release agreements and process improvements.
  • Train new team members as needed.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • 5+ years of mortgage assumption experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and other spreadsheet tools.
  • 3+ years of experience with Partial Releases or Title work preferred.
  • Ability to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and investor guidelines.
  • Adaptable to guideline changes with seamless implementation.
