Contemporary Staffing Solutions (CSS) is seeking a dedicated Biotech Associate to join our client’s Intellectual Property team focusing on biotechnology in Chicago, IL. This permanent opportunity offers $200,000-$225,000 annually based on experience. This role requires a deep understanding of life sciences paired with strong analytical skills in intellectual property law. The successful candidate will support our clients, which range from innovative startups to established leaders in the biotech sector, by helping to secure and defend critical intellectual property.

- Engage directly with inventors to gain insights into new biotechnology innovations and assist in drafting comprehensive patent applications.
- Oversee and manage patent prosecution processes, ensuring adherence to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) guidelines.
- Analyze scientific literature and related documentation to identify key technical details and novel concepts.
- Draft opinions on non-infringement and patent validity, and contribute to IP litigation support where technical expertise is needed.
- Collaborate closely with clients, offering strategic insights and recommendations on protecting their intellectual property assets.
- Work independently and with senior practitioners to manage client projects, delivering high-quality service and maintaining professional communication.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
- Admission to practice before the USPTO.
- At least three years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, with a focus on biotechnology or life sciences.
- Strong analytical skills and a quick ability to understand new scientific concepts.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills for effective client interaction and collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with precision in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
