Job Title: Accounting Clerk

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our client and play a vital role in supporting their mortgage servicing operations. This onsite, temporary-to-hire position based near Trenton, NJ, focuses on processing loan-level cash transactions, reconciling incoming funds, and supporting financial compliance procedures.

Compensation:
  • $22–$23/hour

Work Schedule:
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Key Responsibilities of the Accounting Clerk:
  • Post borrower payments in a timely and accurate manner based on borrower instructions and investor guidelines.
  • Reconcile payments from various sources, including checks, wires, and electronic batches.
  • Process other financial transactions such as escrow payments, special deposits, and non-cash adjustments.
  • Identify and transfer payments for deconverted loans to the appropriate servicers.
  • Notify internal departments of payments on defaulted loans and process as instructed.
  • Research and resolve unidentified payments and communicate with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Manage returned funds for paid-in-full loans and document actions.
  • Deposit checks using electronic scanners and ensure reconciliation with system totals.
  • Coordinate with clients to clarify payment discrepancies or obtain missing information.
  • Meet processing accuracy and timeliness standards.
  • Support mail coordination and participate in special projects as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.

Qualifications and Skills for the Accounting Clerk:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2–3 years of current experience in branch banking or payment processing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Windows-based applications.
  • 10-key calculator proficiency by touch.
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of BKFS MSP preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with TILA, EFTA, and FDCPA payment processing requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
