Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Trademark Paralegal to join our client’s legal team, with a specialized focus on trademark clearance and search analysis. This hybrid, direct-hire position based in Chicago, IL (2 days onsite, 3 days remote after training) supports U.S. trademark prosecution efforts by conducting and evaluating knockout searches and assisting with application and filing processes.
Compensation:
$100,000 – $110,000/year (depending on experience)
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, standard business hours
Hybrid schedule: 2 days onsite, 3 days remote after training
Key Responsibilities of the Trademark Paralegal:
Conduct knockout and preliminary trademark searches using USPTO, WIPO, and commercial search tools
Analyze search results, identify potential conflicts, and draft summary reports for attorney review
Assist with comprehensive trademark clearance processes, including coordination with third-party search vendors
Prepare and file U.S. trademark applications, draft goods/services descriptions, and select proper specimens of use
Draft and file responses to USPTO office actions
Monitor deadlines and maintain docket accuracy throughout the prosecution lifecycle
Perform legal research related to U.S. trademark law and contribute to strategic client support
Draft and format documents and reports in Microsoft Office Suite
Collaborate closely with attorneys and support staff to ensure consistent, high-quality client service
Qualifications and Skills for the Trademark Paralegal:
Minimum 3+ years of trademark experience, ideally in an IP-focused environment
Strong understanding of U.S. trademark rules, procedures, and prosecution lifecycle
Expertise in conducting electronic trademark searches and using databases such as USPTO, WIPO, and commercial search platforms
High attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced setting
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Flexibility to adjust hours as needed to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in trademark paralegal work
Experience working with third-party search vendors
Prior experience in a law firm or professional services setting
