Job Title: Controller
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Controller to join our client and play a vital role in supporting their financial operations. This fully onsite, direct-hire position based in Moorestown, NJ, focuses on overseeing all aspects of financial strategy, construction job costing, cash flow management, and team leadership within a growing commercial construction environment.
Compensation:
• $150,000 – $175,000 base salary
• Bonus eligible
Work Schedule:
• Monday to Friday
• Standard business hours (40 hours/week)
Key Responsibilities of the Controller:
• Direct and manage financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align financial strategies with overall business goals
• Oversee construction-specific accounting functions such as job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax laws, bonding, insurance, and state regulations
• Lead budgeting and cash flow planning for ongoing and completed projects
• Supervise financial reporting processes and internal audits
• Manage payroll functions and interface with ADP
• Support project managers in monitoring budgets, tracking profitability, and managing change orders
• Maintain documentation for subcontractor payments, lien releases, and insurance
• Build, lead, and mentor the internal accounting team, ensuring collaboration with operations
• Identify and implement technologies to streamline financial processes
Qualifications and Skills for the Controller:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (MBA or CPA preferred)
• 10+ years of financial leadership experience, with a minimum of 5 years in commercial construction
• Expertise in construction accounting practices including WIP, job costing, retainage, and billing
• Proficiency in industry software such as ComputerEase, Procore, or AIA tools
• Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams
• Effective communication skills to engage with internal stakeholders and external partners
