Job Title: 401k Audit Specialist
 

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented 401k Audit Specialist to join our client and play a vital role in supporting financial audit operations. This hybrid, short-term contract position, based in Newark, DE, focuses on preparing and maintaining accurate 401k records, ensuring compliance with plan documents, and assisting auditors throughout the review process.
 

Compensation:
• $27 – $32/hour
 

Work Schedule:
• Monday – Friday, normal business hours
• Onsite with flexibility to work remotely on Fridays after training/ramp-up period
 

Key Responsibilities of the 401k Audit Specialist:
• Compile and update schedules tracking employer match contributions by employee for each plan year.
• Verify contributions align with plan documents and resolve discrepancies when identified.
• Oversee both monthly match processing and the annual true-up calculations.
• Perform reconciliations of prior and current year match amounts as part of audit procedures.
• Coordinate with auditors by supplying requested reports, documentation, and explanations.
• Work closely with internal teams to confirm data accuracy and ensure complete submissions.
• Uphold compliance with ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor requirements governing retirement plan audits.
 

Qualifications and Skills for the 401k Audit Specialist:
• Previous accounting or finance auditing experience with strong knowledge of 401k structures and plans.
• Ability to manage spreadsheets, organize data, and reconcile records.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside auditors, Payroll, and Finance teams.
