Job Title: Underwriting Manager
Job Overview:
Contemporary Staffing Solutions is seeking an Underwriting Manager to join our client in a role that supports key business operations and contributes to important organizational initiatives. This direct hire opportunity is based onsite in West Chester, PA, and will provide leadership across underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, regulatory compliance, and team development. The position offers meaningful collaboration with executive leaders, insurance carriers, and operational partners while influencing pricing, service delivery, and business growth. Success will require sound judgment, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to develop underwriting professionals while balancing financial and risk objectives.
Compensation:
$140,000 to $190,000 annually
Key Responsibilities of the Underwriting Manager:

• Guide underwriting strategy and decision making to support appropriate risk selection, sustainable portfolio performance, and consistent application of established standards.
• Oversee and mentor three direct reports, providing coaching, training, performance guidance, and opportunities for continued professional development.
• Analyze pricing, renewals, revenue results, audit findings, and portfolio trends to identify risks, improve profitability, and support informed business decisions.
• Maintain compliance with carrier agreements, licensing requirements, internal controls, and assigned underwriting authority while coordinating productive carrier relationships.
• Streamline workflows and operational practices while contributing to product enhancements, business expansion efforts, and collaboration with executive leadership, clients, prospects, and external partners.

Qualifications and Skills for the Underwriting Manager:

• Bachelor’s degree and an active Property and Casualty Producer License are required; an MBA or CPCU designation is preferred.
• At least 10 years of underwriting experience across multiple Property and Casualty coverage areas, including responsibility under authority granted by insurance carriers.
• Five or more years of people management experience, with demonstrated success leading teams, developing talent, and strengthening underwriting capabilities.
• Proven ability to manage portfolio profitability, evaluate risk, oversee audits, assess pricing, support renewals, and maintain effective carrier relationships.
• Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and Microsoft Office skills; prior carrier experience is preferred, and experience within an insurance program administration environment is beneficial. Ability to travel to business locations as needed is also required.
