General Counsel


An experienced job-seeker is needed for the General Counsel opportunity with our client in Mount Laurel, NJ! As the General Counsel, you will be responsible for all legal and regulatory affairs. This direct-hire position offers $200k-$240k annually!



Responsibilities of the General Counsel Include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a legal philosophy that supports the mission and core values of the company and its business strategies.

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, including lease agreements, vendor agreements, license agreements, marketing contracts, loan purchase agreements, technology agreements, service level agreements, consulting agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.

  • Maintaining current knowledge of all applicable state/federal laws and regulations governing loan origination and loan servicing.  Advise management as to significant changes in law and the effect of those changes on company practices.

  • Maintaining thorough knowledge of agency guidelines, including FHA, USDA, and Fannie Mae.

  • Providing counsel on labor and employment related matters, which may include human resources issues; wage-and-hour law; workers’ compensation, unemployment and other state agency claims; employee benefits; employment agreements and policy-related issues; FMLA matters; and employment-related litigation, grievances and arbitrations.

  • Managing litigation brought by and against the company.  Review all legal invoices for propriety and reasonableness.

  • Serve as Secretary of the company, with responsibilities which include preparing and authenticating corporate resolutions; implementing and managing corporate governance processes and additional duties as determined by senior management.

  • Detecting fraud and potential money laundering activities within the organization and report these activities, if any, to the authorities.

  • Identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.  Developing corrective action plans for resolution of any identified issues and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

  • Implementing corrective action in case of regulatory exceptions or consumer complaints.

  • Conducting legal research in order to support implementation of compliant policies and procedures.

  • Responding to state/federal agency inquiries and complaints.

  • Review marketing, advertising and promotional materials for compliance with consumer protection laws, privacy law, etc.

  • Defending repurchase demands.

  • Acting as primary liaison between company and its Internal Audit vendor

Required Qualifications :
Requirements of the General Counsel Include:

  • 10+ years of proven experience in a senior attorney role

  • Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school

  • Bar Admission in at least one jurisdiction

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all laws and regulations affecting lending and servicing operations

  • Experience in dealing with regulators

  • Strong organizational, written, verbal, and communication skills

  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential matters
